The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers federal aid to residents of the City of Lubbock through it’s housing agency known as The Housing Authority of the City of Lubbock. In this capacity, LHA is the owner and manager of approximately 367 housing units scattered throughout Lubbock. These units provide decent housing for low income families, the elderly and disabled individuals at rents they can afford. Tenants of public housing units pay 30% of their income toward their rent. Any additional costs are subsidized with federal funding. Through this program LHA is currently assisting over 364 households who have an average monthly rent of about $120.

In addition to income limitations, other criteria include, but may not be limited to:
- A fully completed application must be made with management.
- Third party verification is done on all items completed on the application. False information will be reason for automatic rejection.
- Applicants who are not able to have utilities connected in their name will be rejected.
- Applicants and household members must pass a criminal background investigation. (Policy available at LCHA office).
Applicants will be notified by letter of acceptance or rejection of application.
